Materials & Metallurgical Engineering

You are here

The Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering(MSME) was established in the year 2007 and is dedicated to the advancement of education and research in materials science and metallurgical engineering. It had initiated teaching programs at the bachelor's degree level and master's degree level in 2007 and 2012 respectively.

At present, the Department has faculty strength of 8 (2 permanent and 6 on contract). The department is in its initial growth stage and being supported by the eminent scientists for R&D works. The department is having a B.Tech programme on Materials Science & Metallurgical Engineering and one M.Tech Programme on Materials Science and Technology. The current intake capacity of the department for B.Tech programme is 63 and 18 for M.Tech programme.  Presently about 9 research students are enrolled in Ph.D. and 33 students pursuing M.Tech degree. The research interests of the Department encompass Advanced Materials including nano-materials, thin films, ceramics, polymers, Structure-property relationship in metallic and non-metallic materials and advanced composites, in addition to the core areas like Process Metallurgy, Extractive Metallurgy, Physical Metallurgy and Mechanical behaviour of materials. The Department has developed few state-of-art advanced materials characterization facilities to support industries.

To create a world class environment for education and R&D in MANIT Bhopal. To create collaborative and supportive environment that ignites advances in materials research in India by developing fundamental understanding, adopting frontier technologies, providing education and enabling technological innovations.

Create a vibrant and nurturing educational environment and  preparing students with a broad outlook;Performing world class, cutting edge research and striving for excellence in the relevant areas of material science and engineering;Promoting technical innovations and entrepreneurships with focus on  'Make in India' concept. Disseminating understanding about the role that materials play for human kind.
